All adult hockey leagues at Rivertown Sports have playoffs at the
end of the regular season to determine the league champion in each
division. The Adult playoffs are usually held the week or weekend
following the end of the regular season. Dates & times TBD. A trophy
is awarded to the Championship team in each division.
|
|
Typically, about half of the teams in a division will make the
playoffs. Because of the different number of teams in each division,
some divisions may have byes and may play up to three games to
determine a champion.

In case of standings ties at the end of the regular season, the
following tie-breaker criteria will be used to determine playoff
spots: |
- Standings points, most
- Wins, most
- Losses, fewest (overtime losses count as losses for tie-breaker purposes)
- Head-to-head competition
- Goals allowed, fewest - all games combined
- Goal differential, highest - all games combined
- Coin flip

Special playoff notes: |
- All
playoff games that end regulation-play as a tie will be settled with
as many 11-minute, full strength, sudden death, running-clock overtime periods as
necessary.
- There is an 8-goal mercy rule in effect during all
playoff games. The goal that results in an 8-goal differential will
end the game.
- Playoff games
will consist of three 11-minute periods.
- Players
must have participated in at least five (5) regular season games to be
eligible for the playoffs.
- Teams must be prepared to start their
games up to 30 minutes ahead of schedule.
